Held at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, Andy will be traveling to present a research paper at the 2nd International Conference on Music and Minimalism. The conference for the Society of Music and Minimalism, will be hosted by Kyle Gann and David McIntire. Andy’s paper, will be focused on postminimalist composer David Lang and his direct ties to Steve Reich. The paper will be centered around Lang’s seminal percussion quartet the so-called laws of nature (2002), and will discuss Lang’s influence from philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, his use of music and number, and the importance of the “imperfect” systems within his works.

As discussed on Gann’s famous blog, PostClassic, the gathering is sure to include papers on all subjects of minimalism and has scholars from UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and France.
